Takin' it to the Streets

It has been said that " people need to know that you care before they care about what you know."
At risk people feel that “regular” society thinks they are in their current circumstances by choice and of their own free will. The reality is no one really chooses this life, most people find themselves in it from circumstances they had no control over, with no hope of getting out.
Takin’ It To The Streets dedicated, caring volunteers provide a non-judgmental environment which will lead to trust, and trust leads to the ability to offer real help and accountability. Every effort is made to reduce the scorn and increase the kindness and let them know that no matter what, Jesus loves them.
Many people have only about $30.00 of expendable income after paying their rent per month, so we go into the single room accomodations with sandwiches, granola bars, and noodle soups to help supplement their daily food. Loneliness is just as prevalent as hunger. For many of the people, the Takin IT volunteers are quite often the only people they will see all day, or even at all.
Takin IT to the Streets operates every evening Monday to Saturday from 7pm to 9pm. The Mobile Unit goes to the street to meet the people where they are at. In the single room accomodations the team goes right to the individual doors.
The success is in the dedication, consistency and relationship. The people know the unit and volunteers will be there no matter what because relationships and trust have been established.

Takin' IT to the Streets is a "Hands on" mobile feeding and harm reduction program that runs six nights a week. Sandwiches, coffee, donuts, and other food are brought into the single room accommodations, as well as to the street population directly.
