Wonkets

Wonkets is a non-profit business that was created to help support our women's ministry. Julie Kissick, the artist behind the pieces, created glass beads through a process called lampworking. She then uses these beads to make jewelry, including necklaces and bracelets. As well, she uses silver, semi-precious stones, and vintage pieces in her collection. All of the profits from the sale of the jewelry goes to help the women in the prison.

When the women are released, they are usually in need of basic necessities such as new clothing. We also help with things such as bus tickets home, treatment support, shoes, backpacks, and first months rent. As well, when the ladies are released, if possible, they are brought into the glass studio, and make what we call a “freedom bracelet”. They make the beads themselves and these bracelets are often a source of great pride. As well, while they’re wearing it, if they’re going through a tough time, they can remember that they made something of worth, and they’re women of value.
